Coping

Okays.. here's another interesting theory i learnt today.. this one's frm mental health thou.. Here goes..

Coping: In your opinion, after a breakup, do you think the male will be able to cope better or the female?

Hah! i see that your poor brain cells are dying for nothing.. u must be thinking the male will cope better cos they're usually task oriented and this kinda issue usually won't bother them. BUT on the other hand, females generally have higher EQ as compared to our male counterparts.. (face the fact guys..) therefore, theoretically the females shld be coping better isn't it?

Actually, how well a person can cope after the breakup is not determined by the sex.. haha.. rather, how the person was being brought up as a child. Individuals who are brought up with parents showering lotsa tender loving care generally can cope better. Example, when an infant feels hungry and keeps on crying, the parent immediately give him/her milk. Subsequently the child stops crying. Here we're looking at satisfaction, trust and sense of security. [According to Freud's developmental theory, the oral stage talks about an infant's pleasure centres being at the mouth.] Throughout the childhood, even up to adolescence, parents are there to provide care and support when the child needs it. This then create a great sense of security in that individual and hence, after the breakup, he/she does not feel lost. In fact, with the sense of security, they feel that there's no need to be dependent on the other person, they can live on their own.

Same theory applies on the other side of the story. If you were being brought up with ur parents always scolding you, beating you, there's no trust between the parent and the child. Therefore the child will not feel secure at all. So the child grows up with this sense of insecurity, and when something happens (read: breakup), they feel lost and plus the insecurity that was already there, they find it difficult to cope.

Well, the accuracy of this theory is still up to your discretion. But for me, its so true la. :)
